History of the SAT12 Process
In 1999, Swagelok Company introduced its next-generation Swagelok tube fitting with an enhanced back ferrule geometry case hardened with the Swagelok SAT12 service. The result was improved gripping power and enhanced gas seal capabilities to enable a reduction in fugitive emissions and leaks in a range of industries across the world – from power, nuclear and chemical to oil and gas exploration. The Swagelok tube fitting enables the world’s industries to reduce energy consumption and contain hazardous fluids from being released into the environment.
In 2007, the SAT12 service became commercially available to the public through the Swagelok Technology Services Company (STSC). In any industry application where hardness – as well as corrosion, fatigue, wear and erosion resistance – is desirable, SAT12 treatment stands to reduce costs. Since components last longer with SAT12 treatment, the service will reduce replacement costs and downtime in industries ranging from pulp and paper to desalination. Known applications where SAT12 treatment has proved valuable include:
- Wear and clutch plates in pulp and paper mill maintenance and repair operations
- Fasteners for aerospace, marine and defense equipment
- Marine hull seals and propulsion
